Sailing in French Polynesia offers breath-taking scenery, steady trade winds, and diverse cruising grounds. The best time to sail is May–October for dry weather and stable winds. Popular destinations include the Society Islands (Tahiti, Bora Bora, Raiatea), the Tuamotus for remote atolls and diving, and the Marquesas for rugged landscapes. Navigation requires caution, especially at reef passes with strong currents, and weather monitoring is essential. Provisioning is best in Tahiti and Raiatea, as supplies can be expensive elsewhere. Entry regulations require checking into Papeete, with permits needed for extended cruising. Safety measures like locking dinghies and using mooring buoys to protect coral are recommended.
